The Heavyweight action returned to Slovakia once again this past Wednesday with a battle between Hungarians Istvan Ruzsinszky (12-8-1, 8) and Marton Cagany (1-4).
Competiting for the 10th time this year the busy Ruzsinszky managed to take a 6 round decision over his compatriot as he racked up his 7th win of the year, bouncing back well from a decision defeat to Ferenc Zsalek just a few weeks ago. We now expect Ruzsinszky to return this coming weekend to take on the unbeaten Belgian champion Ali Baghouz as he attempts to stay active. The second successive day of Heavyweight action this week took place in Slovakia, a country that appears to be slowly growing in terms of activity in the boxing world, even if the talent pool, at least for now, is poor.
The first of the Heavyweight contests saw a notable surprised as Csaba Olah (4-75-3, 3) claimed a very rare win. Unfortunately for Olah it was over the novice Marton Cagany (1-3) who was forced to retire with an injury. The second Heavyweight bout on the show saw the hard hitting Daniel Kol (6-2, 5) suffer his second professional loss as Tibor Balogh (8-1-2, 6) recorded his 7th straight victory. This loss ended Kol's 4 fight winning streak which was amazingly run up in the space of just 2 months. Despite the loss it'd be great if Kol resumed his brilliant level of activity in the coming weeks. Heavyweight action returned to Slovakia this past Wednesday in an interesting Heavyweight double at the Sportova hala MSO in Šturovo.
These bouts in Slovakia saw stoppage victories for both Daniel Kol (5-1, 5) and Zoltan Somosi (13-8, 6). For Kol things were easy with the hard hitting Hungarian taking out Marton Cagany (1-2) in the third round, giving Cagany his second successive stoppage loss. Things were slightly more time consuming for Somosi however as he needed some 6 rounds to get rid of Vasil Mandea (2-4, 1). As well as the double in Slovakia there was also action in both the US and Mexico. In Mexico the once beaten Juan Manuel Dominguez (4-1, 2) gave away around 60lbs in weight though still managed to overcome the debuting Victor Bobadilla (0-1) via a unanimous decision. Whilst the Mexican bout went the distance the US one didn't as the unbeaten Jarrell Miller (5-0-1, 5) forced a second round retirement of journeyman Tobias Rice (4-9-1, 2). Less than 7 years ago Nothern Island's Scott Belshaw (10-7, 7) blasted out Lee Webb, on debut, in 10 seconds. This result got several fans interested in the 6'7" Heavyweight from Aghalee.
After 11 fights Belshaw was 10-1 (7) with his sole loss, a decision to popular journeymn Daniil Peretyatko, avenged. Unfortunately after the bright start to his career it's fair to say Belshaw has flopped a bit like a 6'7" fish out of water, losing 6 successive bouts in a row. The most recent of those losses came earlier today in Queensland, Australia as Hunter Sam (7-2-2, 4) took him out in just 106 seconds, giving Belshaw his third successive loss in Australia. Although Sam came in to this fight on the back of a disappointing loss to Joel Shackleton just a few weeks ago he has seemingly proven that he's not going to just fade away and we'd expect he's now hunting, excuse the pun, for a rematch with Shackleton. As well as the bout in Australia there was also low profile action in Slovakia, in fact there was 4 bouts in the Sportova hala MSO in Šturov. The earliest of these bouts saw Lukas Filka (4-3, 3) stopping the debuting Jozsef Szabo (0-1) inside a round before Daniel Kol (3-1, 3) took out Gabor Kiss (3-17, 1) in a round and Tibor Balogh (6-1-2, 4) stopped Norbert Szucs (0-4-1) in the second. Whilst the 3 under-card bouts saw early finishes the main event bout went the distance as the debuting Marton Czagany (1-0) took an 8 round decision over Vasil Mandea (2-2, 1). We're not sure why Czagany made his debut in an 8 round contest though we're impressed by the performance. Sadly before anyone has dreams that he'll be a superstar, he is already 39. |
